Living Local

Farmers Market 2010

We are serving tea, coffee, and our delicious home made cakes at

Mill View Farmers Market. We set up our stall on the third Saturday of every other month, between 9am and 12 noon.

We need 2 or 3 volunteers to help us run the stall each time. The usual stint is an hour but any help for however long is most welcome. We also need cakes to sell, cupcakes, big cakes to slice, tray bakes, sponges, scones are all popular especially if they’ve got a bit of icing or something on the top.

If you would like to either help sell, bake or both then please let us know at Thursdays meeting or contact us by email livinglocal@uptonvillagewi.org.uk All the money we make now will be profit and will be used by the Living Local Group to organise UVWI events like our annual picnic in the Park.

Picnic in the Park 2010

We are currently planning our next Annual Picnic in the Park for 12th September 2010 and have lots of fun ideas for the day. Further details will be given nearer the time.

We would really welcome any member who would like to join the committee. It's fun to meet and help plan some exciting projects. Please contact us at livinglocal@uptonvillagewi.org.uk.

Living Local is a sub committee of Upton Village WI. A small group who meet outside of the monthly members meeting. The group started after many members expressed an interest in local issues at a brain storming meeting early 2008, one of the first Upton Village WI meetings.

Living Local is a WI campaign which began in 2006. Starting off as a project in a Devon village where WI members campaigned to get local produce onto the shelves of their supermarkets. They had great success and struck up a partnership with SPAR. Inspired by this campaign we have used the original ethos to form our group.

We aim to highlight to our members that living in a community is more fun and rewarding if you try and do it the local way. Why not make the most of what is on your doorstep, whether that be when shopping, using local amenities, helping improve your local environment or looking after your own little piece of the planet.
