Every year 300 babies are born in the Chester area needing the expert support of the Special Care Baby Unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital. Research demonstrates that these sick and premature babies can have their chances of survival and long term development substantially improved if fed with breast milk. These poorly babies often do not receive sufficient quantities of this precious nutrition from their own mothers and need the support of donations of milk from other nursing mothers.
As the Cheshire and North Wales Human Milk Bank is a charity, they are constantly fundraising to help with the purchase of necessary equipment and for the maintenance and operational costs of running the Milk Bank.
The Upton Village WI raised £644 during 2008 for Human Milk Bank, this money will go towards the purchase of new equipment that will streamline the bottle data-logging processes.
