Campaigns

The National Federation of Women's Institutes (NFWI) is the largest voluntary organisation for women in the UK. With 205,000 members they are uniquely positioned to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities.

Every year WI members put forward resolutions for discussion at the AGM in June. If passed, these then become mandates and form the basis of campaigning activities in the years ahead. The proposed Resolutions for 2009 are listed below.

SOS for Honey Bees

Honey Bees play a vital role in the pollination of food crops and in our environment. In view of concerns about the accelerating decline in the UK honey bee population, this meeting urges HM Government to increase funding for research into Bee Health.”

Action on Flooding

In order to prepare for future flood disasters, the NFWI urges HM Government to implement the findings of the Pitt Review, concerning management and response by statutory agencies, in full as a matter of urgency.

Residential care fees for the elderly

Members of NFWI call upon HM Government to put into place a more clearly defined and fairer system of residential fees for the care of the elderly.

Effect of GP led practices

on Doctors and customers in rural areas in particular The NFWI is concerned that Government plans to open GP-led health centres (poly-clinics) may damage existing GP practices, especially in rural areas and calls for any innovations in health care delivery to build on existing effective services.

Reinstatement of hospital inhouse cleaning services

We urge HM Government to reinstate in-house hospital cleaning services under the responsibility of the senior nursing staff.
