Picnic in the Park
13th September 2009
With great anticipation Sunday 13th September arrived and yippee! The weather was bright and sunny and much fun was had by all those members and their families that attended our now annual Picnic in the Park.
A scavenger hunt organised by Suzanne kicked off the activities and children big and small set off to collect as many items on the challenge list as possible. Congratulations to the Rhodes girls who were our winners on the day.
The BBQers were kept busy, cooking up over 220 of Upton Village Butchers best sausages. Not too many burnt ones we hope! Thanks to our local butchers for once again making our special sausage packs just for our Picnic.
Musical entertainment was brilliantly provided by local choir ‘The Song Smiths’ who created a lovely relaxing interlude before our Worm Charming Competition. 95 wriggly worms were the winning score. The Butler family were victorious for the second year with the Rushforth family our runners up. Well done Louise, the only one brave enough to count the worms – nice Marigolds!
Thanks to all the organisations that came along to add a bit of interest to the day. The Cheshire Bee Keepers Association, Transition Chester and Chester Police were all fantastic to talk to and really relevant to our WI and the Living Local feel to the event.
One of the best things about the day was seeing all the weird and wonderful creatures on display in our vegetable monsters competition. Well done to everyone - children and adults, who entered their monsters. The Bee Keepers had a tough job picking out three winners. Take a look at the photos to see how good they all were.
And so stuffed with picnics, sausages and Cheshire Farm Ice Cream we packed away for another year happy that at last we had finally managed to have a BBQ this summer after all.
Thank you to all those who helped the Living Local gals organise the day. Especially the husbands who found themselves volunteered to help at the last moment - Richard, David, Jason and Simon.
